The "Montagne du Bouyssou"

Description

When you reach the Parc des Claies, the final stage of "Ma montagne", a small hill hides the east from you, preventing you from seeing the Siniq valley. This is the montagne de la Vèze, named after the small stream that runs through it, or the montagne du Bouyssou.

"The Bouyssou, or bush in Occitan, is a hidden treasure in the heart of the plateau. In these brooms, in these marshes, we find a rich and preserved flora and an abundant but discreet fauna. This is a mountain that has remained frozen in time: among the cows, you walk through history. And it's history that has preserved it. When you cross Le Bouyssou on foot, you see dozens of holes, casau, huts and ruins. These huts have been known for a long time; Pierre Marty, then owner of the neighboring Cailhac mountain, was the first to excavate them, at the end of the 19ᵉ s, at the beginning of archaeology. They tell the story of 5000 years of human occupation on the plateau: the story of men and women long forgotten yet who shaped our landscape, the story of the first farmers, at the end of the Neolithic, who settled there, who built a lake a little below, in the Peyre peat bog. It's also through these huts that we discover how the plateau, this open planèze, remained a land of livestock farming, and how the estives and burons came into being. Recent excavations by Frédéric Surmely explain how the last buried houses became the first buron-trou. To understand the Bouyssou, you also need to see Rissergue in the commune of Malbo and the Grenier de Lily. It's important to remember that the Bouyssou was much larger, and still holds many secrets about the people who have lived here for thousands of years. Le Bouyssou is a discreet witness, away from the road, that you need to know how to read and appreciate. It's also a magical place, close to the buronnier's homage, a place to reflect.
